Blood Moon

Start Time:  4:58 a.m.

Ending Time:  5:03 a.m.

What's a blood moon?
A blood moon is a total lunar eclipse.  The moon is completely covered by the shadow of the Earth.  Small amounts of light passing through the Earth's atmosphere give the moon a reddish glow (the same mechanism that gives sunsets their color).

It is safe to watch, but because the moon will skirt the umbra (shadow), the total eclipse will last for only 5 minutes.

The next total lunar eclipse will be
on 28 September 2015.  Put it on your calendar!
