Wednesday—Good for You, Good for The Home: GOOD Soap

My favorite everyday bath soap

GOOD Soap by Alaffia.  Available at Whole Foods & online

Really good soap!

Create your own selection by choosing from a wide variety of premium bath bars.  I usually bag 3 bars at a time.

  • Good Black Soap (black_unscented)
  • Good Lavender (soft cream)
  • Good Coconut (warm gray)
  • Good Sunshine (sunny yellow)
  • Good Fresh Mint (light green)
  • Good Prairie Rose (cotton candy pink)
  • Good Sweet Vanilla (sunflower gold)

For the Holidays
(available 1 November)
  • Good Holiday
  • Good Candy Cane
  • Good Pine Garland
  • Good Holiday Spice

What's So Great About this Soap?

To begin with, all of the soaps are made of certified fair trade ingredients, certified by IMO.

Plus, the scents are subtle, and the soap is smooth and gentle on my skin.  Soft, fluffy suds are high on the list of things I need in the morning, along with a flagon of coffee.

And, from the Whole Foods website...

Good Soap sales fund Alaffia community empowerment projects in West Africa.  Alaffia aims to alleviate poverty, promote gender equality and support human rights by empowering individuals and their communities to engage in effective, long-term projects.

Alaffia's community projects include:

Alaffia Bicycles for Education
Since 2006, Alaffia has distributed over 6,300 bicycles to rural, poor students in Togo.  With emphasis on girls, the goal is to reduce the high dropout rate (91 percent) by providing a means of transportation to and from school.

Alaffia Maternal Health
In sub-Saharan Africa, 400 women die each day due to pregnancy or childbirth related causes.  Alaffia provides pre-natal and delivery care to 1,000 women each year in rural areas of Togo.

Alaffia Reforestation
Alaffia has planted over 42,600 trees in an effort to help Togolese communities better withstand the effects of climate change.  The goal is to slow desertification and to increase the supply of food for families.

Whole Planet Foundation — Supplier Alliance

Alaffia donates 1 percent of each Good Soap sale to the Whole Planet Foundation for Microcredit.  The Whole Planet Foundation was created to generate commerce within the communities who have helped the Whole Food brand succeed.

The foundation works in partnership with microfinance organizations in 65 countries to secure microloans for entrepreneurial women-owned businesses.  How cool is that?

It's all good.

What a great way to pay it forward!
